Founders

Bruno and Tommy, two great friends and professional players who have loved basketball since childhood and want to pass it on to people living in disadvantaged areas of the world.

BRUNO CERELLA

President/founder

Born on 30/7/1986 in Bahia Blanca, Argentina.

I was born in a city where people chew on basketball. One of those few in Argentina where you catch the ball and throw it to the basket instead of kicking it. I started playing basketball when I was 4 years old and I also played swimming, tennis and handball until I was 17. When I was 18 I accepted to come and play in Italy, in Massafra, to live a life experience through sport.

Basketball has allowed me to experience wonderful things, to get to know cultures, to grow on and off the court and to meet people I will always hold in my heart.

My way of thanking sport is through Slums Dunk, dedicating time to our projects and trying to create something sustainable over time that can create opportunities and improve the living conditions of the new generations (and others) who are born and grow up in disadvantaged areas of the world!

TOMMASO MARINO

Vice-president/founder

Born in Siena on 5-2-1986.

I’ve had a basketball in my hand since I was 4 years old.

A professional since I was 17, today I’m the point guard for Givova Scafati in the A2 series.

With Bruno I founded Slums Dunk, laying the foundations for this project back in 2011. Today it represents an important part of my life and brings together two great passions: basketball and Africa.

Trainers

Michele, Giuseppe, Lara and Jacopo: they offer their technical skills and their passion for basketball by teaching it to all the boys and girls involved in the Slums Dunk project.

Michele Carrea

Michele Carrea, born in Milan in 1982, has been a professional coach for 13 years. In the path that takes him from the youth teams to the Serie A, he participates 4 times in the training camps for SD coaches. He has supported the project since its inception thanks to his shared passion for Africa and basketball!

Giuseppe di Paolo

Born in Abruzzo, he fell in love with basketball while playing in his hometown of Chieti. He became FIP national coach and FIBA world coach. In 2011 he graduated in Match Analysis & Data scientist. He was an assistant coach and video analyst in Serie A where he met Bruno and Tommy and began to collaborate with Slums Dunk dealing with the training of coaches.

Lara Tagliabue

Lara met Slums Dunk in 2016. In 2017, she obtained a Master's degree in "Relation d'Aiuto in contexts of development and national and international cooperation" from the Catholic University. She is now a lecturer in the "Sport for Aid Relations" Workshop of the same Master. She works as Project Manager on behalf of Fondazione Laureus Sport for Good Italia, a reality that deals with "sport for development", in response to fragility and social needs of children and young people in Italy and worldwide.

Jacopo Generoso

National minibasket instructor, he is a coach trainer at the Ndola Basketball Academy in Zambia. He currently trains at Cm Basket 84, always looking after the youngest. With his passion and great spirit of sharing, he believes that at every latitude basketball can be a tool for free expression and can help develop individual and autonomous thinking.

Testimonials

To be the spokesperson for an initiative like Slums Dunk is first and foremost to be grateful for the opportunity that sport has given them. They too were children, and thanks to sport they have realised their dreams, becoming professional athletes and an example to follow for many fans.
