Dreaming is a right

Slums Dunk wants to give everyone the chance to realise their dreams. Without leaving anyone behind. Even those who are born and grow up in the most difficult contexts deserve to be able to dream big: they do so through a ball, a basket, a playing field, the guidance of their coaches and the smiles of their friends.

Dreaming is good

Slums Dunk was created with the aim of improving the living conditions of children and young people in areas where fate seems to play against them from the start.

Through sport, the children learn values such as solidarity, commitment and perseverance. Basketball as a gymnasium of life that brings with it the desire to raise the eyes, hearts and destinies of children and young people: a winning dunk towards a different future and possible dreams.

Dreams are planned

Bruno Cerella and Tommaso Marino personally follow each project in each phase of implementation. Since 2011 they have been spending part of their summers in the slums that host the Basketball Academies of Kenya, Zambia, Argentina, Italy and a project recently started in Cambodia in collaboration with Milan’s local sports clubs.

Of fundamental importance is the stimulus and educational support to local coaches, together with sport the real “architects of dreams” able to shape future teachers, engineers, doctors, athletes…

Dreams realized

Slums Dunk not only promises to help kids realise their dreams, it succeeds. And this is thanks to the mix of the constant support of the founders who always follow the initiative personally, together with the dedication of the boys. The proof is in the stories of these three exceptional boys: Javan, Teddy and Milton.

Name: Javan

Age: 16

Born in: Masaba, Kenya

Play basketball since 2014

I am very fond of my mother, whom I adore. My environment unfortunately did not allow me to study and fulfil myself in my country.

When Slums Dunk became part of my life, it made me discover my love for basketball. My dream is to be successful in my studies and to become a professional player… and this is becoming reality!

Today I am in Italy, where besides discovering my love for coffee, I continue to cultivate my personal and sporting passions by playing in a professional team.

Name: Teddy

Age: 17

Born in: Mathare, Kenya

Play basketball since: 2013

I grew up in the second largest slum in Nairobi, Mathare. My mum was a teacher and my dad a paint seller. They worked and I studied and dreamt, and still dream of becoming a professional NBA player.

It’s thanks to Slums Dunk that I started practicing my passion, in 2013, and thanks to them I am now in the United States, where I am attending college on a sports scholarship, living my dream on my skin.

Name: Milton

Age: 18

Born in: Mathare, Kenya

Play basketball since: 2013

I started playing basketball at the age of 12 through the Slums Dunk Basketball Academy. It wasn’t long before doors opened for me: at the age of 15 I got a scholarship to go to the United States to study and play basketball.

I’m still in the United States where I’m growing as a student and as a basketball player day by day, looking forward to becoming a professional and showing my friends back home that anything is possible if you put your heart into it.
